Pioneer events are special. There are no previous course times to consider, no race reports to read – they’re a step into the unknown. And in the case of Breca Jersey, it wasn’t so much a step as an enormous leap. The swims are on three of the island’s coastlines – each stage is subject to different swells, currents and tides (this year the east coast was particularly memorable). Reflecting on this afterwards, Vaughan Robinson (team The VWs) postulated that it was a swimmers course. But, I would argue that the combination of trail, steeps, fast flats, technical entries and exits favours both the complete athlete and teams that can work together. So huge congratulations to all of you that took part, it was really inspiring watching you take on the course.

Astonishingly, after seven hours of racing only two minutes separated the top two teams in the Men’s and Women’s categories.

In the Mens race, Jersey locals Daniel Halksworth & Oliver Turner of team Davis & Ingram held off the challenge from Stéphane Sibout & Benjamin Thevenon of Deauville Triathlon for most of the course, but were pipped at the post, finishing in times of 7:06 and 7:08 respectively.

The Women’s category was also hard-fought and came right down to the line. Lisa Howley & Linda Clarke of The G-Girls arrived at the last swim moments ahead of Emily Scott & Cesca Dessain of Slaves of Waves; only an aggressive entry over a highly-technical transition kept them ahead to cross first over the line in a time of 9:28 and 9:31 respectively.

Notimetolous built on their third place at Breca Buttermere by putting in a dominant performance to win the Mixed Category and place 6th overall, an amazing result in a strong field.

The Sprint class was won by local team It’s ‘Ruddy Worth’ a tri!, closely followed by the top Mixed team Lord & Lady and the winners of the Women’s category Janina and Em.

A huge thank you to our amazing volunteers. Without your hard work and support the event would not have been possible, so massive thanks. Thanks too to our rib drivers and safety kayakers who all did a fantastic job shepherding the athletes around the course.

We are really grateful for the support of our series partners Orca, GU Energy, Kendal Mint Cake and Wildman Media. Thanks too to our location partners Tribe, Visit Jersey, Jersey Heritage, the Jersey National Park and Fitness First Jersey. Finally, thanks to the team at the Portelet Inn for hosting us at the finish.
